Omg!Insider Tweet Appearance

15 02 2013

Tweet2Well…this was truly unexpected.

Two weeks ago, it was a usual day of tweeting. It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary just keeping it casual as always. One of the producers from the show, Omg!Insider, asked a question in regards to Oscars fashion.

Fashion has become a part of pop culture that has everyone talking about who looked good or who looked bad. Although I am not familiar with many of the haute couture designers,  I did remember a specific actress from last year’s Academy awards.

Her name is Jessica Chastain. You most likely remember her from “The Help” but you can also see her in “Zero Dark Thirty.” Last year, she wore an Alexander McQueen gown with some of the most intricate beading i’ve ever seen. Her auburn locks cascaded down her back in a dramatic fashion to complete the look.

TweetI submitted my 140 character tweet to the producer and expected nothing. It was just my two cents about a memorable look.  On Friday, I got a tweet from the actual show stating that my tweet would be on the show. The only thing was that I didnt know what tweet would appear on it. So I sent out facebook statuses to promote my tweet’s appearance on the show.

Well I missed my appearance but luckily I’ve seen a video and photograph about my tweet. It was a surreal experience just to know that my Twitter handle would be all over the nation in a nationally televised entertainment show. I can’t wait to be an actual correspondent that appears on a national TV show.

You can be a part of the 24/7 online conversation by following omg!insider and searching for hashtag #omginsider. See you in the Twitterverse.

The Return of Queen B

Multiple Grammy wins? Yes!
Appear in theatrical releases? Of course.
Put on a memorable Super Bowl performance? Cross that off the bucket list.

Beyonce’s return to music kicked off in a make it or break it performance in front of the Super Bowl crowd. She was riding the negative press of the Inaguaration lip synch scandal. While she tried to minimize it, the damage was done.

When asked if she would lip-sync during the halftime show, Beyonce said, “I will absolutely be singing live … I’m ready.”

In collaboration with Pepsi, fans were asked to upload photos in order to participate in the introduction of the singer. After the fans’ cameo, she appeared in the middle of the stage and kicked it off with a upempo “Love on Top” segued into “Crazy in Love” with strutting, dancing, and popping.

She sang “Till the End of Time” with live drums and tribal dancing leading into the Sean Paul assisted “Baby Boy” with help from her hologram dancers.

The highly anticipated Destiny’s Child reunited with their biggest hits including “Bootylicious” and “Independent Woman.” Kelly and Michelle popped up along with a multitude of flames then strutted along with Beyonce as they didn’t skip a beat and seemed to be in sync. The ladies ended their reunion by assisting her with “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).

After strutting, dancing, and shaking what her momma gave her, Beyonce slowed it down with “Halo” in another attempt to show off her vocals.

In the end, Beyonce worked that stage like it was her declaration to gain back her throne. While audio issues were evident, she managed to get people talking and intrigued to see what her next move is.

Let me know what you thought about the halftime show on Facebook or Twitter

The Artists of 2012

31 12 2012

Here are the artists in no particular order that ruled the airwaves with their insanely catchy singles, epic video treatments, and their non-stop promotional tours to keep our attention from drifting into the next disposable pop star.  2012 brought a variety of new artists while also bringing some of our favorite pop stars back into the fold.  Who was your favorite artist of 2012?  Any predictions on who will return to the musical scene?  Let me know on Facebook or Twitter.

Call Me Maybe - Single

Carly Rae Jepsen
Take one tweet from Justin Bieber and an add an infectious pop chorus that uses a cheesy pick up line and you get the hard to escape single of 2012, ‘Call Me Maybe.” It ruled the charts for a consecutive nine-week run and inspired many viral videos such as the Harvard’s Baseball Team and Olympic Swim Team.

Fun.
Although this band released their debut single, “We Are Young”,  back in November 2011, it was a gradual build-up to their six week run as #1 on the Hot 100 in March of this year.  Chevrolet and Apple commercials featured the highly popular single.  Recently, the group was honored with six Grammy nominations including for Best New Artist.

Rihanna
If anybody thought Rihanna would take it in easy in 2012, you were sadly mistaken.  She continued spawning hits off of her album, ‘Talk That That’, which included the dance-pop gem, “Where Have You Been.”  Amidst controversy, Rihanna teamed up with her ex boyfriend Chris Brown to release a remix of “Birthday Cake.”  In late 2012, Rihanna delivered the mid-tempo jam, “Diamonds”, to kick off the era for her seventh album, ‘Unapologetic.’

Kelly Clarkson
The original American Idol winner has delivered instant karaoke classics such “Since U Been Gone” and “Because of You” and you can certainly add this pop gem into your repertoire. Clarkson delivered the up-tempo anthem of empowerment and survival in the form of “Stronger” which shot up to the Hot 100 summit and gave the singer her third #1 single. On top of her music career, Clarkson took a foray into being a mentor on ABC’s music competition show, ‘Duets.’

imagesFrank Ocean
If you manage to catch attention from Kanye West, Beyonce, and Jay-Z before your debut album is released, then you must be doing something right.  Frank Ocean released Channel Orange in mid 2012 and debuted at #2 with 131, 000 copies. Ocean performed his single, “Thinkin Bout You” on the MTV Video Music Awards. Earlier this month, Ocean was honored with Grammy nominations including one for Album of The Year.

Pink
After taking a break to become a mom, the feisty pop star returned with her 6th studio album, ‘The Truth About Love’, which sold 281,000 copies in its first week of release becoming her first number one album in the USA.  Along with her musical comeback, Pink also signed an endorsement deal with Covergirl. Her current single, “Try” sits at #16 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Justin Bieber
While he didn’t garner any Grammy nominations and may or may not be dating Selena Gomez, teen heartthrob Justin Bieber still had a great year.  He transitioned into more adult territory with his third album, ‘Believe’, which delivered the Timberlake-sounding ‘Boyfriend.’  The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, becoming his fourth chart-topper.  Besides music, Bieber is heading into the television world with ABC as his life will serve as the basis for a sitcom.

I Knew You Were Trouble. - SingleTaylor Swift
She’s best friends with Selena Gomez and has the girl next door vibe except for the fact that she’s a singer-songwriter who may or may not write about her exboyfriends. Taylor Swift delivered the ever-so catchy “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”, which a marked a new musical direction for the singer.  Her album, ‘Red’, debuted at the top of the charts with 1.2 million copies sold in its first week of release. Swift is the only woman in history to have back-to-back million plus selling albums.

Maroon 5
After giving us a glimpse of the musical direction they were heading to with ‘Moves Like Jagger’, Maroon 5 delivered ‘Overexposed’, their fourth studio album that includes hits such as their #1 single ‘One More Night’ which has spent 9 weeks on the top Hot 100.  Frontman Adam Levine can also be seen on the next season of The Voice with Blake Shelton and new judges Usher and Shakira.

One Direction
If Barbara Walters picks you as one of her most interesting people of 2012 then this fivesome must have done something right.  British import One Direction has taken over the world with songs such as “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Little Things.”  The band became the first British band to debut at #1 with their debut album and had the third biggest sales debut of 2012 with their sophomore album, “Take Me Home.”

Pop Culture Moments of 2012

31 12 2012

In Memoriam
I would like to take a moment to remember the people we’ve lost over the year but especially I send my prayers and light to the people affected by the tragedies of Aurora and Sandy Hook Elementary.  You are not forgotten and will always be remembered. I hope that all the victims and families find a sense of peace and rebirth after the tragedies.

Royal Pregnancy
KatePregnanyLast year, we were talking about the marriage of the year between Prince William and Kate Middleton.  Now we’re ending the year with the news that the royal couple is expecting a baby! Rumors were running rampant since September that Middleton was with baby but it wasn’t until earlier this month that the rumors were confirmed.  2013 is already shaping up to be an eventful year as many will want to catch a glimpse of the royal heir.

The Death of Whitney Houston
While we said goodbye to many of pop culture’s movers and shakers, the death of Whitney Houston rocked the music world the night before music’s biggest night, The Grammy Awards. Houston was found dead as a result of accidental drowning in The Beverly Hilton Hotel on February 11.  She is survived by her daughter, Bobbi Kristina.

The Fab Five clinch Gold.
It hadn’t been done since the 1996 Olympic Games when the magnificent seven gymnastics team clinched team gold.  Fast forward to 2012, we were introduced to five young girls known as the Fierce Five that managed to out-do the competition and clinch Gold in the London Games.  On top of that, member Gabby Douglas became the 1st African-American to clinch individual gold in the all-around event.

Beyonce adds “Mommy” to her resume.
She’s a singer, actress, songwriter, fashion designer, and much more but nothing could prepare Beyonce for her next role. After rocking a baby bump for most of 2011, Beyonce and Jay-Z welcomed a baby girl named Blue Ivy.  Instead of going the usual route of doing a magazine photoshoot with their bundle of joy, Beyonce used social networking site, Tumblr, to introduce Blue to the rest of the world.

Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes call it quits
Some couples made it official by taking the vow of forever, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes called it quits after five years of marriage.  It was a surprise to many that the fairy-tale romance ended with Holmes filing the divorce papers and moving to New York. An amicable agreement was made by both parties with the focus being on the well-being of their only child, six-year-old Suri Cruise.

BlakeLivelyWeddingSurprise Weddings!
As always celebs were hitched right and left and yes, some of our favorites got married this past year.  The most shocking wedding of the year was between Ryan Reynolds & Blake Lively as the couple tied the knot in South Carolina in September.  The other shocking wedding was the marriage of Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake. The twosome had their October nuptials in Italy and shared their wedding album with People magazine.

Break Up Heard Around the World!
If you think I am talking about Selena and Justin breaking up, you’re completely wrong.  Twilight powercouple Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattison were broken up late summer after Stewart was caught canoodling with Snow White and the Huntsmen director Rupert Sanders. Twihards were left in shock as it seemed that couple was over.  In October, signs of reconciliation between the two lovers were seen as they embarked on the last promotional tour for the Twilight series.

Musical chairs for TV judges
As many seats became available due to the departure of many judges to focus on their day jobs, many pop stars jumped at the chance to find the next generation of pop stars. Demi Lovato and Britney Spears made their debuts as mentors on the 2nd season of X Factor which has surprisingly given new meaning to “It’s Britney, bitch!”. Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and Keith Urban joined, American Idol, which premieres next month. Usher and Shakira will be serving as replacement judges for the Voice as Christina Aguilera and Cee-Lo take a sabbatical from the show.

Gangnam Style Takeover
“Dress classy but dance cheesey” is the motto behind one of the biggest singles of the year.  Korean pop singer Psy invaded the American Shores with his international hit, “Gangnam Style.”  The video has managed to become the most-viewed YouTube video of all time and has garnered commercial success for the singer.  Psy signed to Bieber’s manager’s label, Schoolboy Records, and plans to release music stateside.

Kim-Kardashian-Kanye-West-Expecting-Baby-Pregnant

Kim K & Kanye are having a baby K.
In one of the biggest news to come last minute in 2012 is the announcement of Kim Kardashian expecting her first child with Kanye West.  Last year, we found Kardashian being called a fraud for her luxurious wedding to Kris Humphries and calling it quits all in the same year.  This year, West referred to Kardashian as his “baby mama” during an Atlantic City concert.  The proud parents-to-be will welcome their first child in summer 2013.  Let the photo shoots, begin!

The X Factor Winner is…

20 12 2012

top3

After countless musical performances and an endless amount of Britney’s facial expressions, country crooner Tate Stevens was declared as the X Factor Season 2 winner. He wins a $5 million contract with Syco/Sony, a Pepsi endorsement deal, and a music video premiere during the 2013 Grammys

The Top 3 finalists made their entrance singing to the Beatles’ classic “All You Need is Love” and featured appearances from eliminated contestants such as  Paige Thomas, Emblem3, and Cece Frey. Before the threesome was cut down to two, all three finalists delivered their own versions of Christmas classics.

Stevens tackled “Please come home for Christmas” with snow angels providing a little sensuality to the performance while Fifth Harmony brought a winter wonderland with their rendition of “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).  Teenage singer Carly Rose belted out “All I Want for Christmas is You” with her usual vocal strength.

In addition to the holiday songs, all of them were treated to tear-inducing video messages from their families and supporters.  The moment came to cut down the field and, Fifth Harmony was announced as the third place winner and out of the competition.

“I have a feeling you’ll be seeing and hearing from them…soon.” , stated mentor Simon Cowell in regards to his girl group’s elimination.

Pitbull got the crowd pumping with his club jam, “Don’t Stop The Party,” while UK X Factor Alumni One Direction jammed out to their pop rock single, “Kiss  You.”  Before the winner was announced, Carly & Tate teamed up for the last performance of the season by doing a version of  ”The Climb.”

In over-the-top X Factor fashion, both finalists and mentors took to the stage and waited patiently for the results. Without further wait, Mario announced the country crooner as winner of the X Factor.  Stevens let out a fist pump and a couple of tears as he closed out with “Tomorrow.”

X Factor returns for season 3 in the fall.  Online auditions are open now while live auditions kick off in the spring.

X Factor: Anything Can Happen

19 12 2012

25041_430345567037070_1457458039_n

The X Factor Season Finale kicked off with a touching tribute dedicated to the 26 lives lost in the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy.  Eliminated contestants from previous weeks joined finalists Fifth Harmony, Carly Rose, and Tate Stevents on Michael Jackson’s “You Are Not Alone” along with a kids’ choir.   The performance ended with the victims’ names displayed on the LED screens behind them.

After the somber start to the show, Khloe and Mario announced that it was the start of the end for the 3 finalists as they would be performing 3 songs each to prove their worth of a $5 million contract.  The first round kicked off with songs that the finalists had already performed at one point in the competition.

Carly Rose – “Feelin’ Good”
The song picked by team Spears was the audition song used by Carly to make it through to the next round.  As usual, staging and background vocals are over-the-top but ultimately, Carly showed off the sassiness and vocals while transforming into a diva on stage.  It was a strong performance that Simon said “it was better the second time.”

Tate Stevens – “Anything Goes”
Another audition flashback song which wasn’t heard by Simon during the audition process.  It was another strong performance from the surprise frontrunner of the show.  Stevens was in his element and showed a competitive side to keep up with the other finalists.  Britney said, “When you do right in the middle country, you are right on the spot.”

Fifth Harmony – “Anything Could Happen”
Originally, this girl group consists of five girls who auditioned as solo artists but ultimately, they didn’t make it to the next round as soloists.  The girls were brought together by Simon Cowell and have continued to grow as the show progressed.  The girls went with one of last week’s song, “Anything Could Happen”, which was one of their strongest performances so far.  It was switched up with a spoken part of dreams but the bubbliness and girliness came back to attack.

After a strong 1st round, the finalists teamed up with surprise guests for duets. LeAnn Rimes, Demi Lovato, and Little Big Town were brought in to collaborate with the finalists.

Carly Rose w/LeAnn Rimes – “How Could I Live Without You”
Who else was wishing Carly would take the stage with mentor Britney Spears?! That would be a much better pairing than this. Carly has proven she’s a powerful vocalist but this pairing felt a bit off. It didn’t mesh in most parts while the ending felt a bit too much of one another trying to outdo each other.

Tate Stevens w/Little Big Town – “Pontoon”
This pairing of country singers felt much more natural and organic than the first pairing.  It was Tate back in his element and rocking out like country star.  It was fun to see Tate enjoy the moment instead of worrying about what life holds after the competition.  Tate felt more like he would fit better in a group than instead of going solo.

Fifth Harmony w/Demi Lovato – “Give Your Heart A Break”
Another repeat song from the girl group but it’s a strong selection for the finals.  “Give Your Heart A Break” was selected by the fans during the Pepsi Challenge week which also was a good week for the quintet. Demi Lovato joined the fivesome for a flawless uptempo version of the hit single.  Simon stated “it was pop perfection.”

After the intense 2nd round which brought the competitors one step closer to the finale, the finalists gave it one more round by slowing it down and showing why they should get the $5 million contract.

Carly Rose – “Hallelujah”
Carly Rose sang like an angel on her version of “Hallelujah” which also featured a kids’ choir. Staging and lighting emphasized the pint-sized vocalist as she hit every note as if it were her last.  It felt reminiscent of the crowning moments that you would see on ‘American Idol.’

Tate Stevens – “Tomorrow”
Tate gave it one last go at the crown with his rendition of “Tomorrow.”  His last performance was an emotional and raw as the country crooner commanded the stage.  He’s really shown that this show could be a platform to launch an individual’s career before they step off the stage and the lights go out.

Fifth Harmony – “Let It Be”
The girls tackle a Beatles classic with amazing vocals.  One of the major differences between this group and other girl groups is that each of the individuals have strong vocals and are given the moment to shine.  The performance showcased the girl as individuals but yet the harmonies brought it all together for the last performance of the night.

It’s all up to America as they decide the winner of X Factor: Season 2.  One Direction & Pitbull will perform in the last results show of the season and the winner will be announced.

X Factor Season Finale Part 2 airs Wednesday at 8/7c

X Factor: Diva Showdown

6 12 2012

Another double elimination! The X Factor said goodbye to Cece Frey and Diamond White as the competition gets closer to finding the winner of X Factor Season 2.

The show waited a little before pulling the plug on the first eliminated contestant of the night by going through a montage of the previous night’s performances plus an oh so lovely extended commercial for Sony X headphones. Simon Cowell proudly claimed that these were the best headphones in the world.

Season 1 Winner Melanie Amaro returned to the X Factor stage as she sang her new single, ‘Long Distance’, which was an up-tempo song performed in typical over-the-top X Factor style.  Amaro also showed off her svelte figure along with her glamazon makeover.  After the unusual delay of naming the first eliminated contestant,  our favorite hosts announced that Cece Frey was the first act sent home due to the lowest number of votes obtained from last night.

Khloe and Mario announced the saved contestants were Emblem3, Carly Rose, and Tate Stevens.  The bottom two were revealed to be Fifth Harmony and Diamond White.  As the contestants got ready for the sing-off,  Ke$ha performed her new single, ‘Come On’, which proved to be another electro-pop ditty from pop music’s resident party girl.

Fifth Harmony kicked off the showdown with their rendition of  ’Anytime You Need A Friend’ which showcased each singer while also bringing forth their harmonies as a girl group. Diamond White retaliated with her powerful and vocally strong version of  ’I Hope You Dance.’  Ultimately, Britney decided to send Fifth Harmony while the remaining judges sent Diamond White which proved to be hard especially for Young Adult mentor/judge Demi Lovato.

The hosts revealed the ranks of the contestants based on the number of the votes they received.

X Factor: Unplugged

5 12 2012

559898_423929534345340_1878672703_n
It’s almost the end of the road as the competition heats up with the Top 6 performing not one but TWO songs for a spot in the semi-finals. This week’s challenges were unplugged and the viewer-powered Pepsi Challenge.

Cece Frey –  Lady Gaga’s ‘Edge of Glory’
It was one of her better performances yet there were some notes in there that felt a bit drowned.  It wasn’t overthought and over-the-top as her past performances have been.  LA and Simon thought it was good but it wasn’t great.

Emblem3 – Bruno Mars ‘Just The Way You Are’
The guys have delivered high energy performances that evoke a fun spirit.  Their rendition of ‘Just The Way You Are’ brought out the worst in the trio as strained vocals plagued all three and showcased one singer instead of all three. Worst performance of the night.

CarlyRose – Justin Bieber ‘As Long As You Love Me’
Up until this point, Carly has delivered show-stopping ballad renditions of hit songs. It was a bit daunting to hear her take on this electropop ditty but once again, Carly pulled out all the stops on this performance. It was a subtle yet strong beginning that culminated in a strong finish. Why can’t we just crown her the winner, already?

Fifth Harmony – Adele ‘Set Fire to the Rain’
(sigh) Why do music competition shows like to tackle on Adele?  You know most performers can’t pull off the showstopping notes. Alas, Simon decided that his girl group should take on this song.  It was a decent performance and it still feels like the girls are working out the kinks of being in a girl group. Dinah is always delivering that closer note for the group which is a perfect ending.

Diamond White – James Brown ‘It’s a Man’s World’
First, the viewers have already witnessed this performance earlier in the season. Second, why do a repeat of a song you’ve already performed. Third, even thought this was a song she’s already done, it showcased her voice. Fourth and final, Diamond transformed into a little diva and showed everyone why she deserved a spot in the semi-finals.

Tate Stevens – Jon Bon Jovi ‘Livin’ on a Prayer’
Tate succeeded in making this Bon Jovi classic but at times, it felt a bit forced when he kicked into the chorus. Demi felt a bit bored while Simon said it was the wrong choice for the country crooner.

After the judges got to pick the right or wrong songs for their contestants, the power was given to the viewers for the Pepsi Challenge. Every single thing of the performance was chosen by us, the viewers.

Cece Frey – Katy Perry ‘Part of Me’
This performance was an updated version of last week’s performance.  The vocals were completely off and the wardrobe was reminiscent of Christina Aguilera’s look in ‘Your Body.’  It was a 360-transformation from her first performance. Another bad performance for Cece but ultimately, it’s  not clear if this will be her last performance.

Emblem3 – Alphaville ‘Forever Young’
The trio’s second performance was an improvement of their first go-around but ultimately, it was weak compared to the rest of the competitors.  The trio’s energy carried them throughout the energy but the fans might carry them on to next week’s semi-finals.

Carly Rose – Beyonce ‘If I Were A Boy’
Flawless performance from Carly Rose. The only issue was the staging but her vocals destroyed that issue. Can we already claim this girl the winner of the competition?

Fifth Harmony – Demi Lovato ‘Give Your Heart A Break’
This performance felt better than their last up-tempo song, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” The group seemed to be more in sync the second time they took the stage. It was fresh and fun plus Demi said it should’ve been their song.

Diamond – Rihanna ‘Diamonds’”
Diamond was out on full-force to prove she should be kept around for semi-finals. She’s got major pipes that have been showcased throughout the whole competition but this performance felt overdone.  It was a great beginning but then every other note felt like was being shouted out to prove her pipes. Taking a cue from the Christina Aguilera singing skills is something not to do right now.

Tate Stevens – Garth Brooks ‘If Tomorrow Never Comes’
Tate’s second performance showcased everything that has gotten Tate this far in the competition. It was a return to form after his lackluster first performance. It was a strong finish for the surprising performer that has been in a stride since week 2.

Two acts go home tomorrow and it’s semi-finals.

Who are you cheering for?

X Factor airs on Wednesdays and Thursdays on 8/7c

Cry Me A River

1 12 2012

Last night, this song came on the radio and instantly reminded me of Justin Timberlake’s music career. When the heck is he going to make another album? I know we can’t rush perfection but damn it, I need another Timberlake album that delivers gems like this.  As we all patiently wait, enjoy this break-up ditty about former flame,  Britney Spears.

X Factor Results: The Survival of Six

29 11 2012

The X Factor continues its massacre of dreams, ambitions, and the oh so happy thoughts of being on the show.  Another double elimination fell upon the contestants.  In usual X Factor fashion, there was no hesitation in pulling the ceremonial gun and announcing the first eliminated contestant of the night was Paige Thomas.  Gasps and boos were loud among the crowd as Paige graciously accepted the elimination.

“I am ready to go home and put some work in to show everyone what I can do,” said Paige about going home from the competition.  After the initial shock of Paige’s elimination, Season 1 runner-up Josh Krajcik  performed his new single, “One Thing She’ll Never Know”, which was met with loud applause from the audience.

Khloe and Mario announced the saved contestants were Fifth Harmony, Cece Frey, Emblem3, Carly Rose and Tate Stevens.  In another shocking moment, the bottom two were revealed to be Diamond White and Vino Alan.  Before the sing-off, Grammy winner Alicia Keys performed her single, “Girl On Fire”, which rocked the house with its beating drums and powerhouse vocals.

The sing-off lacked no powerhouse vocals with Diamond giving a stirring rendition of  Beyonce’s “I Was Here” with a great start but overall, it was a bit pitchy due to the pressure and emotions. Vino brought out the song he used during the open auditions, “Trouble”, and served as a reminder of why Vino made it so far but ultimately, the judges had the last word.  LA voted to send Diamond off while the remaining judges sent Vino packing his bags.

The hosts revealed the ranks of the contestants based on the number of the votes they received.
